Multi-Lane Stick Pack & Sachet Machines: Lanes, Speed and Output Explained
By the FOOD LINE engineering team · Updated
Short answer: Output of a multi-lane machine = number of lanes × 20–40 cuts per minute. Pick the number of lanes from your daily target, then the seal style and dosing system from your product.
Output formula
Packs per minute = lanes × cuts per minute (20–40 per lane). A 4-lane machine therefore makes ~100–160 packs/min, a 10-lane ~250–400 and a 16-lane up to ~640.
Seal styles
- Back seal (stick pack) — long, slim, centre seam. Coffee, sugar, supplements, honey.
- 3-side seal — flat sachet with one folded edge. Seasonings, shampoo samples.
- 4-side seal — flat sachet sealed on all sides, premium look. Medicine, seasoning, cosmetics.
Dosing by product
Powder → long screw, short screw or screw + cup. Granules → volumetric cups. Liquid/paste → piston or ceramic pumps, optionally with a heated mixing tank.
Film width and lanes
Film width ≈ (sachet width × 2 for back seal, or × 1 for 4-side seal) × lanes + trim. Example frames: 300/500 mm (2–4 lanes), 600/700 mm (3–10 lanes), 900/980 mm (4–16 lanes).
Downstream automation
Multi-lane machines can be linked to automatic counting, boxing and cartoning lines so finished sticks go straight into display boxes without manual handling.
